An important duty of the governing body of Baldwin County remains the statutory requirement to make appointments to a caldron of Miscellaneous Boards, Planning (Zoning) Boards, Hospital Boards (Authorities) & Water, Sewer & Fire Protection Authorities or Districts within the jurisdictional confines of Baldwin County, Alabama.

The requirements are prescribed either by Alabama General Law (Alabama laws relating to all counties in Alabama) or Alabama [Baldwin County] Local Law (Alabama laws relating only to one county or political subdivision of the state - in this case Baldwin County, Alabama).

As noted in the location on this web site Site titled "An Introduction and Historical Overview of the Governing Body of Baldwin County, Alabama," such requirements can be found within several parts of Alabama General Law (called "Titles") of the Code of Alabama 1975 (such as the appointments made to the Baldwin County Solid Waste Disposal Authority, Hospital Boards (Authorities) & Water, Sewer & Fire Protection Authorities, to name only a few).

Additionally, within Alabama [Baldwin County] Local Law, other requirements are enumerated throughout a series of Local Laws relating only to Baldwin County (such as the appointments to the Baldwin County Planning & Zoning Commission, Baldwin County Judicial Commission, Baldwin County Historic Development Commission, to name only a few).

Importantly, many of Alabama's General Laws or Alabama's [Baldwin County] Local Laws set forth certain requirements that a nominee must meet in order to be considered for, and appointed to, service on a Board.  Because of such, the Baldwin County Commission requires the Office of Assistant to County Administrator for Research & Special Projects to compile information applicable to any proposed appointment to a Board for review prior to a formal appointment.
